Lancashire, Northwest and National Grades 2012

Great results for all the GSoG girls at Lancashire, Northwest and National Grades this year - see the GSoG News page for full results.

Gymnasts from Garstang School of Gymnastics are celebrating their recent success in two major competitions; the Lancashire Grades Championships and then the NW Regional & National Grades Championships.

The Lancashire County Grades Championships was their first challenge of the year.  As well as competing for the title of Lancashire Grade Champion this competition is used as the selection process for a chance to represent the County or to compete as an individual in the North West Grades finals.

37 girls from the club took part in the County competition and their hard work in training certainly paid off with all gymnasts successfully passing their respective grade.

Zara Tachtai (Grade 11) and Maddie Brook (Grade 9) came first overall in their grade winning the gold medal and becoming “2012 Lancashire Grades Champions” and Chloe Wojcik (Grade 14) came 3rd overall taking the bronze medal.

They, together with Abbie Ogden (Grade 14) and Trinity Hamilton (Grade 11)  went on to represent Lancashire at the NW Regional Grades finals and Mia Rodriguez (Grade 12) and Olivia Baxendale (Grade 10) competed in the finals as individuals.  All the girls performed extremely well and the Lancashire Grade 14 team came 3rd overall and the Grade 11 & 9 teams came 2nd .  Zara Tachtai was awarded the overall individual silver medal in the Grade 11 competition.

The North West National Grades competition saw further success for Garstang School of Gymnastics with Katy Coward, Kara Dawson and Ginny Buckley all passing their Grade 7 and Teri Williams in the Compulsory Level 3 enabling them all to progress to their next level.

Well Done girls…!!!!

Garstang Boys Shine at National Finals!

Five boys from GSoG successfully competed at the men’s Club Development Grades Finals which were held in Birmingham 0n 12th/13th May.

For some of the boys it was there first time visiting the Alexander stadium to represent the club and their region at National Level in the team’s finals.

Brodie Donougher was part of the winning North West team at Level 1. Individually he came 9th overall in a huge group of 62 and his best piece on the day was his floor routine scoring 9.35.  In the Level 2 competition both Max Whyte and Archie Cooper competed, with Max coming a credible 7th overall individually.  Archie’s best performance was on the vault, which bagged him a score of 9.20.  David Jeans represented the North West at level 3, with the vault also being his strongest piece on the day with a score of 9.25.

At Level 5, the NW team narrowly missed taking the bronze medal position; however, GSOG's Isaac Vango came 3rd overall winning the individual bronze medal.  He shone at the vault and managed an impressive 9.60 on parallel bars After competing 12 year old Isaac said, “I’m really glad that we all did well because we work hard in the gym.  I enjoyed the comp and am really pleased with all my scores but especially my vault score of 9.6 out of 10 as it’s a personal best."   Assistant coach Heather Vango said, “I think the boys competed very well, people often think gymnastics is easy and don’t realize how much strength and technique is involved.  Boys have to train hard to do the skills they need and it’s every credit to them when they succeed.”

Boys' head coach Fiona Catterall said, “I’m so proud of all the GSoG boys who were there, they overcame any nerves on the day and competed really well against some of the best boys in the country and came away with some fantastic results.”

As a result of the competition all those boys who finished in the top 10 individually in Levels 1-4 are invited to a training camp to be held at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre in October, so a special congratulations to Max Whyte and Brodie Donougher on their achievement in securing a place on this camp..!
